Ingredients
1 sleeve (about 40) saltine crackers
1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter
1 cup packed brown sugar
2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
Optional: crushed candy canes, chopped nuts, or festive sprinkles
Instructions
1. Preheat oven to 400°F and line a baking sheet with foil or parchment.
2. Arrange saltine crackers in a single layer.
3. In a saucepan, melt butter and brown sugar together, stirring constantly until bubbling. Let boil for 3 minutes.
4. Pour the toffee mixture evenly over the crackers and spread gently.
5. Bake for 5 minutes until bubbly and golden.
6. Remove from oven and immediately sprinkle chocolate chips on top.
7. Let them melt, then spread into an even layer with a spatula.
8. Add toppings like crushed candy canes or chopped nuts.
9. Refrigerate until set, then break into pieces and serve.
Notes
For a peppermint version, add crushed candy canes before chilling.
Store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 2 weeks.
