- 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 egg
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- Red food coloring (optional)
- Powdered sugar for dusting (optional)
Instructions
- In a bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
- In a separate bowl, cream the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
- Beat in the egg and vanilla extract.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients until combined.
- If using, divide the dough and add red food coloring to one portion to create a pink dough.
- Roll the dough into a log shape and wrap it in plastic wrap. Refrigerate for at least 120 minutes or until firm.
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Slice the log into heart shapes and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden.
- Let cool and dust with powdered sugar if desired.
Notes
To maintain their shape, make sure to chill the dough thoroughly before baking.
