Description

Tender, juicy steak smothered in a rich, flavorful onion and mushroom gravy—this comfort food classic is a true family favorite!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 lbs beef steak (sirloin or round), sliced
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1 large onion, sliced
  • 1 cup mushrooms, sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream (optional)
  • Fresh parsley for garnish

Instructions

  • Heat oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Sear the steak slices for 2-3 minutes per side until browned. Remove and set aside.
  • In the same skillet, sauté onions and mushrooms until soft. Add garlic and cook for 1 minute.
  • Sprinkle flour over the mixture, stirring for 1-2 minutes until lightly browned.
  • Gradually whisk in beef broth, ensuring no lumps form. Stir in onion powder, garlic powder, paprika, black pepper, salt, and soy sauce.
  • Return the steak to the skillet, cover, and let simmer for 20-25 minutes until tender.
  • If using, stir in heavy cream for a richer sauce and cook for an additional 5 minutes.
  • Garnish with fresh parsley and serve over mashed potatoes or rice.
